Thankful
Marc, November 26th, 2009 This has been a tough year. The economy, the war that just drags on and on. People arguing about who deserves health care. Michael Jackson dying. The price of gas. And who will ever forget the swine flu? Yet we all have so much we can be thankful for. I certainly do.
I’ve got these amazing sons, my nephews, my “step“ daughters, six wonderful young people in all, either in high school or my oldest, whom I’ve been lucky enough to have loved the longest, a freshman in college. My family, as diverse and factional as they can be, are still my family and no one can take them away.
My body is strong and healthy. People tell me I look good for my age. Is that a compliment? But the fact is I’m strong. I’m healthy. I can get around and do the things that matter to me.
So, no matter what’s going on. Whether you have a great job and big investment accounts or no job and an overdraft. Whether you are deployed in the desert or have a loved one over there or just far away because of jobs or circumstances, no matter what, be thankful for them. And for another day above ground. Which sounded silly the first time I heard it but that’s all there is isn’t there? Our days above ground and how we spend them.
Spend yours well. Get out of that gas guzzler and walk right on this earth. Turn off that stupid TV. Reality is all around you and it is richer and deeper and better for you in real life. Enjoy the sights sounds and smells of living. Smile at a stranger. It will probably scare them to death, but it just might be the one thing that makes their day wonderful. Love your family and friends and save some of that love for yourself. You are worth it and worth being thankful for.
Happy Thanksgiving!
